Realistic painting in acrylic of the writer Aldous Huxley with an etching by the Italian graphic artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi of the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian in Rome, painted by the Dutch fine artist Paul Meijering - the original painting is 90 x 120 cm and available for sale.
Aldous Leonard Huxley (Godalming (Surrey), 26 July 1894 - Los Angeles, 22 November 1963) was an English-American writer, essayist and poet who became widely known for the many novels and short stories he wrote. One of his best-known works is Brave New World, a science fiction novel.
Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Mogliano Veneto, October 4, 1720 - Rome, November 9, 1778) was an Italian graphic artist, who became known for his cityscapes of Rome, engravings and etchings of imaginary dungeons.
Piranesi was also involved in archaeology and held views that are no longer held today. He also worked as an architect, designer and author.
Piranesi is known for his large-format etchings of cityscapes of Rome and sublimated studies of ancient Roman architecture. His Carceri (dungeons) are, because of their original and imaginative execution, a novelty in the art of etching. Partly because of his polemical writings, he is seen as an important intellectual figure in 18th-century Rome. Piranesi had a considerable influence on neoclassicism.
