Description
Realistic acrylic painting/portrait of the Italian painter Eugene de Blaas with his artwork "Änticipation", painted by the Dutch fine artist Paul Meijering - the original painting is 120 x 90 cm and for sale.
Anticipation 1911 by Italian Painter Eugene von Blaas; Also known as Eugene de Blaas or Eugenio Blaas (24 July 1843 - 10 February 1931), was an Italian painter in the school known as Academic Classicism.
He was born at Albano, near Rome, to a Tyrolean father and Italian mother. His father Karl, also a painter, was his teacher. His mother, Agnesina Auda, was a well-to-do Roman woman. The family moved to Venice when Karl became Professor at the Academy of Venice. He often painted scenes in Venice, but also portraits and religious paintings.
In 1870 he married Paola Prina and they had two children. Their daughter Agnesina was born in 1871 followed by a son named Giulio in 1888.
Paola was described as being " a pretty woman" and "with her light hair and blue eyes she was quite bewitching." In 1901, when Paola was fifty-five years old, Lady Layard described her as "wonderfully young looking for a grandmother" and added that "though she has an odd reputation she talked most nicely of marriage and one would imagine her a model wife and mother."
She frequently modelled anonymously for her husband's paintings of Venetian beauties and some sources believe she is possibly the woman in de Blaas's circa 1870's painting titled The Love Letter. De Blaas had several paintings titled the Love Letter therefore authentication of the model's identity is not easily accomplished.
Though he often painted Venetian scenes; he also painted many portraits and religious works of art. A beautiful Italian young lady with a red flower in her hair, wearing a long two piece white and gold tone dress with a corset type fitting and a red apron hanging from her waist, waits by a balcony on the docks with a potted plant by her feet waits in anticipation for the boats to come into shore.
Eugenio's paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Fine Art Society, New Gallery, Arthur Tooth and Sons, all in London and the Venice Biennale Exhibitions. He was a prolific painter and his large body of work can be found in public and private collections throughout the world.
