Catherine Deneuve (Paris, 22 October 1943) is the stage name of Catherine Dorléac, a French actress. She is the sister of Françoise Dorléac. Their parents Maurice Dorléac and Renée Simonot (real name: Renée Deneuve) were also actors.
Deneuve made her big-screen debut at 13 (in 1956) (in Les Collégiennes). In this, she adopted her mother's birth name. She only gained some fame in 1964, with her role in Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival). From that moment on, she developed into one of the most important women on the French screen and one of the top stars of the international film scene in the late 1960s. Deneuve is not only active as an actress; she is also a businesswoman of her own production company and a model (in the 1980s, she was the face for Chanel perfumes) and has had her own perfume since 1986.
From a relationship with French director Roger Vadim, she had a son, Christian Vadim, and was married for a time afterwards to British photographer David Bailey. From a relationship with Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni, she had a daughter, Chiara Mastroianni. Her grandson Igor Divetain, son of Christian Vadim, is active in the fashion world.
In 1985, she modelled for Marianne, the national symbol of France.
