Artist's Description
Realistic acrylic painting of the German painter Hans Hassenteufel featuring one of his nudes, painted by artist Paul Meijering - the original painting is 120 x 90 cm and available for purchase.
Hans Hassenteufel (Berlin, 27 January 1887 - there, 15 August 1943) was a German painter of portraits and female nudes.
He was born in Hamburg and received private lessons there from Rudolf Jacob Zeller, followed by studies at a private painting and drawing school in Munich, managed by Walter Thor; then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where his main professors were Peter Halm and Franz von Stuck.
He remained in Munich throughout his later career and created an immense number of female portraits and nudes, many done in Orientalist style. He occasionally painted landscapes and still lifes. Many of his works were published in the form of postcards. Hassenteufel died in Munich in 1943.
About Paul Meijering
For almost 33 years now, Paul Meijering has been active with the paint brushes. As a 17- year old inspired youngster he joined the Academy of Arts in Enschede (Holland) in order to receive a native training in drawing- and painting technique. At that time (1980) the tendency of the abstract was running riot, and to his dismay and disappointment Paul found that the trade of the ancient masters was merely 'old hat', the realistic art being disregarded and looked down upon. After two years of useless botchery, there was only one conclusion to draw: "get autodidact, be a self-taught person!" Paul then left the academy to work for a living, but at the back of his mind there always loomed the passion of his life: to paint. At his spare time...
