In essence, the adage in the life of Hans Zegwaard (1953 - 2004) was above all: "There is nothing to say, because there is too much to say". And don't bring any claptrap, personality glorification or hypocritical behaviour to him, because then he could unmistakably look people in the eye in such a devastating way that people would petrify on the spot. Hans was an exceptionally authentic individual with a strong personality. Some days brought him inspiring joy, other days sticky misery. He knew periods of lucidity which were often taken over by the scourges of hell. In between, the poetic artist fought triviality and boredom with brush and pen. And if that didn't work, then with the bottle. Hans wanted to fly, but could not escape from the cage of the past. His paintings and poems told of it.
