Realistic acrylic painting of the late American singer, songwriter and poet best remembered as the lead singer of The Doors, Jim Morrison, painted by the Dutch fine artist Paul Meijering - The Original painting is 90 x 90 cm and for sale
James Douglas "Jim" Morrison (December 8, 1943 - July 3, 1971) was an American singer, songwriter and poet best remembered as the lead singer of The Doors.
Because of his songwriting, wild personality and performances, he is regarded by critics and fans as one of the most iconic and influential frontmen in rock music history, and because of the dramatic circumstances surrounding his life and death. In the latter part of the 20th century he was one of the popular culture's most rebellious and oft-displayed icons, representing generational gap and youth counterculture. He was also well known for improvising spoken word poetry passages while the band played live. Morrison was ranked number 47 on Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Sing...
For almost 33 years now, Paul Meijering has been active with the paint brushes. As a 17- year old inspired youngster he joined the Academy of Arts in Enschede (Holland) in order to receive a native training in drawing- and painting technique. At that time (1980) the tendency of the abstract was running riot, and to his dismay and disappointment Paul found that the trade of the ancient masters was merely 'old hat', the realistic art being disregarded and looked down upon. After two years of useless botchery, there was only one conclusion to draw: "get autodidact, be a self-taught person!" Paul then left the academy to work for a living, but at the back of his mind there always loomed the passion of his life: to paint. At his spare time...

Pardon me if I might have connected the wrong Gene Light. I knew the cover art photo was done by Gene Light, and immeadiatly connected it with this Gene, whom I now remember was associated with my involvment with raceing. (I was part of a Dirt Track race team for a long time.) I haven't been able to establish that "My" Gene took the photo and was in a state of shock as I didn't know he had passed. The real point worth noting is that Paul has very accuratly portrayed a "Color Photograph" taken by a photographer named Gene Light and represented it in a "sepia" medium. (A notably difficult goal to achieve.} As far as MY BAD. 1, One should never add comments etc. while in a highly emotional state. 2. One shoiuld never post statments like mine without doing the research. My apologies. I had just learned that "my" Gene had passed, it was late at night as I was posting, Yada Yada.. 'Nuff said.

For the benifit of those that may not know- This piece is also a stunning tribute to Gene Light. The origional image by Gene Light was used on the cover of the book "No one here gets out alive." An excellant book about Jim Morrisons life. Jims quote used for the title was basically a variation of the saying "No one gets out of life alive." - Morgan
