Realistic acrylic painting, painted by the Dutch fine artist Paul Meijering of two ballerinas painted in watercolour by Chinese painter Liu Yi.
The original painting is 90 x 120 cm
Liu Yi was born in 1958 in Jiang Nan, Shanghai. His love for his hometown lies behind the beautiful garden scenes of his village and can be seen in paintings showing local folk customs. The artist's sentimental interpretation of rainy, misty atmosphere and picturesque landscapes of his surroundings became his signature style. Yi graduated from Hua Dong University of Education and later completed postgraduate studies of watercolour painting at the China College of Fine Arts. He believes his conception of water as "man's harmony with nature" is the essence of Chinese philosophy.
Although he finds creating the satisfying work exhausting and painstaking, Yi enjoys combining elements such as colour, randomness, water and rhythm. Watercolour painting has a unique beauty, with softness and hardness...
For almost 33 years now, Paul Meijering has been active with the paint brushes. As a 17- year old inspired youngster he joined the Academy of Arts in Enschede (Holland) in order to receive a native training in drawing- and painting technique. At that time (1980) the tendency of the abstract was running riot, and to his dismay and disappointment Paul found that the trade of the ancient masters was merely 'old hat', the realistic art being disregarded and looked down upon. After two years of useless botchery, there was only one conclusion to draw: "get autodidact, be a self-taught person!" Paul then left the academy to work for a living, but at the back of his mind there always loomed the passion of his life: to paint. At his spare time...
