Henk Helmantel (Westeremden, February 22, 1945) is a Dutch painter. He is counted among the Northern Realists and the Independent Realists. Christianity is central to his daily life and work.

The middle child of five, Helmantel grew up as the child of a couple who had their own nursery. Christianity played an important role in the family. He is Reformed and a member of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN). Helmantel trained as a painter at the Minerva Academy in Groningen from 1961 to 1965. In 1967 he settled in his native village of Westeremden to practice his trade. He later moved to the parsonage next to the Andrews church.

Helmantel is generally regarded as a fine painter. This means that he portrays his subjects in a realistic manner. He paints many still lifes and interiors of medieval churches and monasteries. He focuses particularly on Romanesque and early Gothic architecture, both in the Netherlands and in other areas of Western Europe. His Christian philosophy plays an important role in his perception of creation and culture. He cites Rembrandt as an important source of inspiration for his work. He finds his inspiration particularly in simple utensils from various cultures, but also various types of fruit can be found in his still lifes.
