Realistic acrylic painting of Tamara de Lempicka, birth name Tamara Gorska (Warsaw, 16 May 1898 - Cuernavaca, 18 March 1980), a Polish art deco painter, painted by the Dutch fine artist Paul Meijering. The original painting is 120 x 90 cm.
De Lempicka was born into a wealthy and prominent Polish family. Her father was a lawyer, her mother a well-known society lady. Decisive for her artistic development was a trip she made to Italy as early as 1911, where she came into contact with Renaissance painting. After her parents' divorce in 1912, she went to a boarding school in Lausanne.
In 1916, she married the lawyer Tadeusz Lempicki and went to live in St Petersburg. After the October Revolution (1917), they both fled to Copenhagen, where they had a daughter, Kizette, in 1920. For almost 33 years now, Paul Meijering has been active with the paint brushes. As a 17- year old inspired youngster he joined the Academy of Arts in Enschede (Holland) in order to receive a native training in drawing- and painting technique. At that time (1980) the tendency of the abstract was running riot, and to his dismay and disappointment Paul found that the trade of the ancient masters was merely 'old hat', the realistic art being disregarded and looked down upon. After two years of useless botchery, there was only one conclusion to draw: "get autodidact, be a self-taught person!"
