Vicente Romero Redondo (Madrid, 1956) is a Spanish figurative painter and educator, best known for his pastel depictions of graceful girls in solitude in romantic settings, adorned with artisanal clothing. Having lived on the Costa Brava for many years, his oeuvre is praised for conveying rare beauty and serenity, while emulating the vivid clarity characteristic of the art of indigenous Mediterranean masters. Romero Redondo's oeuvre has been exhibited with distinction across borders in Europe and beyond.
Romero Redondo grew up in an art-loving family and became interested in drawing and sketching at an early age in school. At the age of 19, he enrolled at the San Fernando Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid, where he graduated in 1982 as "Licenciado" in sculpture. For several years he worked as a nomadic street portraitist along coastal locations in the Spanish peninsula and islands, teaching himself and further developing his plastic expression skills, until he finally adopted pastel as his most favorite medium.
Romero Redondo settled on Calonge, Costa Brava, in 1987, where his art matured into his current luminous Mediterranean style. Considered a pastelist master, Romero Redondo has recently been distinguished as a special guest at international pastel events in France, Turkey and the Philippines. In addition to Spain, his work has been exhibited in many other countries including Italy, Russia, the US, Taiwan and China among others.
The artist has acknowledged that his paintings attempt to offer "an illusion of surprise, a stolen moment of intimacy."
