Artist's Description

Realistic painting in acrylics of the Dutch cartoonist, humorist and absurdist Gummbah (pseudonym of Gertjan van Leeuwen) with 6 of his cartoons, painted by the fine artist Paul Meijering - the original painting is 90 x 120 cm and for sale.

Gummbah studied journalism in Tilburg, but preferred to draw. In 1993 he published a magazine, God, containing his own comics and cartoons. He also published in magazines such as Zone 5300 and Sick. Later his drawings appeared in among others Volkskrant, Humo, Propria Cures and Nieuwe Revu.

Together with Hans Teeuwen and Pieter Bouwman Gummbah made the theatre and television show Poelmo, slave of the south (for girls who love animals). With some friends, including Jeroen de Leijer, he started the Bond tegen Humor (Society against Humour) and its magazine De Bedenkelijk kijkenende Grondeekhoorn (The Questionable Looking Squirrel).

After two years of useless botchery, there was only one conclusion to draw: "get autodidact, be a self-taught person!" Paul then left the academy to work for a living, but at the back of his mind there always loomed the passion of his life: to paint. At his spare time...
