Ok, since I already commented on "Miles Davis," I will add my comments to "Miles Davis" #2. Here we see the "Iconic" portrait of Miles. Done in Paul's "Inverted" Dutch Master style. Deep shadowing and pulling the eye first to the blackness of the waist area, to the florescent shirt, and fading from center to the edges with "warm" tones. Very, Very, "Meijering." However it also shows two shortcomings I find consistent in his work. The first being the general inaccuracy of the instrument. The second being his difficulty in portraying elliptical objects, in this case the Coronet buttons and the mouth piece. Even with his outstanding portrayal of various guitars this appears quite frequently on Volume pots etc. Now to be fair, Paul is sort of the "Anti-Dali." What I mean is that Salvador Dali often painted with single sable hair brushes. A finished piece was often only 200mm x 250mm. Paul's work is typically 90cm x 90 cm. Also Musician's will center on the INSTRUMENT and I am finding that instruments other than Guitars kind of lack the accuracy and detail that we see with, let's say Bob Dylan's Tele******. (Brand Names are a "No-No.") Aside from this, Miles Davis #2 is an accurate iconic picture of Miles Davis as I have seen in live performances when he was feeling very good and upbeat during a performance. I.M.H.O. This piece is in the TOP 5 of the Musical gallery showing Paul's "Post Millennium Dutch Master" style fully expressed!

Artist's Description

Realistic acrylic painting of the late American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer Miles Davis, painted by the Dutch fine artist Paul Meijering - the Original painting is 90 x 90 cm and for sale

Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 - September 28, 1991) was an American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. Widely considered one of the most influential and innovative musicians of the 20th century, Miles Davis was, together with his musical groups, at the forefront of several major developments in jazz music, including bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, and jazz fusion.

In 2006, Davis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which recognized him as "one of the key figures in the history of jazz". In 2008, his 1959 album Kind of Blue received its fourth platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), for shipments of at least four million copies in the United States. On December 15, 2009, the U...

About Paul Meijering

Paul Meijering

For almost 33 years now, Paul Meijering has been active with the paint brushes. As a 17- year old inspired youngster he joined the Academy of Arts in Enschede (Holland) in order to receive a native training in drawing- and painting technique. At that time (1980) the tendency of the abstract was running riot, and to his dismay and disappointment Paul found that the trade of the ancient masters was merely 'old hat', the realistic art being disregarded and looked down upon. After two years of useless botchery, there was only one conclusion to draw: "get autodidact, be a self-taught person!" Paul then left the academy to work for a living, but at the back of his mind there always loomed the passion of his life: to paint. At his spare time...
