Helmut Newton, born Helmut Neustädter (Berlin, 31 October 1920 - Los Angeles, 23 January 2004) was a German-Australian photographer.

At the age of eighteen (1938), the Jewish young man fled his native Germany, due to the rise of National Socialism, and arrived in Singapore. There he worked for several years as a press photographer for the English-language newspaper The Straits Times. In 1940 he went to Australia, served in the Australian Army for five years and acquired Australian citizenship in 1946. There he met the actress June Brunell (stage name of June Browne) who posed for him as a model and became his wife in 1948. June Newton would later follow in her husband's footsteps and begin a photography career in 1970 under the pseudonym Alice Springs.

After many trips to Europe and jobs for British and Australian Vogue, he moved to Paris in the early 1960s. There he would spend the next few decades working as a fashion photographer for the French edition of Vogue. In 1971, a heart attack nearly killed him. From then on, his work would become more personal. Helmut and June moved to Monaco in 1981 and from then on spent the winters in Los Angeles.

In 2004 Helmut Newton died in a single-car accident, possibly due to a heart attack.
